Do you know why the U.E. did not take measures to prevent the espionage of Echelon ?
Because the european governments (among others) also spy on the population (although since the telephone tapping under Mitterand, we are less credulous). They already control the mass media : they can easily deform (what is presented as an increase of the GMW is only a catching up of prices), or even invert reality (Israeli actions are systematically presented as reprisals to attacks, but these last ones are only counterattacks against a military occupation, and the exercise of the right guaranteed by the Declaration of Human Rights to resist the oppression, Israel being - as only De Gaulle dared to say - the initial aggressor).
We must try to rectify this disinformation / manipulation of public opinion (their last brilliant feat of arms : the campaign upon insecurity that even public channels led had the effect of qualifying the FN for the 2nd ballot), and in order to make sure that our speech is free and that our communications are not spied on.
We must not allow the "plutocratic" powers take total control over communications, through some "sneaky anonymous persons" for whom violating the privacy of our correspondence is not an offence, while they are committing one when they act without mandate of a judge.
It is not because we don't have anything to hide that we should accept any intrusion in our personal communications, while transparency in financial matters is not the master trump of the leading political parties and while the "State Secret" is so easily put forward (cf. the "Rainbow Warrior" case, et more recently the Taïwan frigates affair in which the witnesses have a tendency to die in suspect ways).
Secure the confidentiality of your messages and give some trouble to Big Brother!
